Dental Examination & Checkups

Regular dental examinations at least twice a year are recommended by the American Dental Association for children and adults of all ages. During your examination, we will check each tooth and the surrounding tissues including your gums, tongue, and cheeks. By doing this, we will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels to determine if gum disease is present, and look for any damages, like broken teeth. Also, we provide oral cancer examinations and examine your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. This will allow us to create a personalized treatment plan for you.

To ensure that your teeth and supporting structures are healthy, we may take a complete set of oral X-ray images during your initial visit. This allows us to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing bone loss, and check for any abnormal lesions. Radiographs are not mandatory, but are highly recommended once a year and before certain dental procedures.

Our plan of action will be thoroughly explained to you so a clear understanding is reached before any dental work is started. It is important to us that you know what the finish line looks like and what can be done to get there.

Dental Cleaning

After the examination is complete, one of our dental professionals will perform a complete dental cleaning. Professional cleanings are encouraged to prevent or slow the process of gingivitis (gum disease), dental decay, and periodontitis (bone loss).

While dental decay and periodontitis are the top causes of tooth loss, it is important to remember that proper oral hygiene must be kept up at home on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding certain foods and drinks that may be harmful to your teeth. During your visit we will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your personal oral hygiene and how to best care for your teeth.
